- Executed technical license agreement with Link-Belt Co. of U.S.A. in the field of excavators and cranes.

- Reorganization into Sumitomo (S.H.I.) Construction Machinery Co., Ltd., Sumitomo (S.H.I.) Construction Machinery Sales Co., Ltd., Sumitomo (S.H.I.) Construction Machinery Manufacturing Co., Ltd. and Sumitomo Heavy Industries Construction Crane Co., Ltd.
- Achieved 100,000 units in total of hydraulic excavators manufactured at Chiba Works since 1975.
